Amazon released their new K8 formatting guide yesterday. Also in the announcement they sent to all registered users (who had signed up for notification) was the path to their new (version 2) Kindle Previewer, and version 2 of KindleGen.

The New "improved" Kindle Previewer adds Kindle Fire (Full color viewer) and it would seem to replacate the length and width of a Fire screen. It has the standard features of previous emulator. AND it reads ePub files as well as mobi and prc's.

But the biggest change is in the New formatting guide. See the table of Contents:

I particularly am enthused about the posibility to finally be able to use Open Type or True Type fonts.

Also exciting is the ability to now use Background images combined with text. There is a nice example of this in Chapter 3, section 12 of the guide. Of course this is only available in Kindle Fire.

Another interesting development which accompanies this new release....You may upload your exsisting ePub file and KDP will translate it to the new Kindle format FOR YOU.

Ther is also mention of inserting video and audio files directly into your book. However this is only readable in Kindle IOS, that's correct, Amazon has a seperate section for books designed specifically for Apple IOS reader.

This is just a preliminary look at the latest development in KDP.Amazon publishing.

Stay tuned for more...
